After qualifying as a counseling psychologist in South Africa in 2000, Athol Henwick worked in private practice, as a student counselor, and lecturer in psychology.
In 2004 Athol moved to Ireland to work in the Self Harm Intervention Program as a counsellor for people at risk of suicide or self harm. In 2012, the program expanded, and Athol became the regional coordinator of the service, supervising 25 counsellors.
In 2015 Athol attended a CCT training in Cork, and "was hugely encouraged by what I had seen. After 13 years working in the field I had not come across a model which so beautifully captured my own philosophy on humanity and the things I instinctively knew to be true about my clients."
"I am passionate about people, travel and sailing. In my spare time I just love to spend time on my yacht anchored out in the local harbor. On a warm summer's day there is only one place I can be found and that is risking life and limb of my four children and their mother out on the bay."
